Do I need a PhD to apply for an E4F Fellowship?
No, a PhD is not required if you are able to document at least 4 years of full-time research experience, at the time of the application deadline.
How do I calculate mobility?
You shall demonstrate mobility, i.e. you must not have resided or carried out your main activities (work, studies etc.) in Spain, UK, France, Germany or USA for more than 12 months during the 3 years immediately prior to the deadline for submission, to be able to choose an University located in one of those countries.
Please account for your mobility during the last 3 years prior to the application deadline.
In case you are restarting our research career or reintegrating intro Europe or you have a refugee status under the Geneva Conventions, please describe your circumstances in the application form and upload supporting documentation in the “Proof of Residence” section of the Attachments Section.
How many fellowships are available?
In this call, up to 16 fellowships are available.
Will I receive confirmation that my application was submitted correctly?
You will receive a receipt directly from the application system, after correct submission of the application, directly to the email you have used when registering. The receipt may end up in the junk folder of your inbox, so please check that folder as well.
Is it possible to update my application, or to submit additional material/information after call deadline?
No. It will not be possible to submit additional material of information once you have received confirmation that your application was successfully submitted.
Are the English certificates compulsory or are there other options to demonstrate English proficiency?
The Terms of Application of the Energy For Future (“E4F”) Postdoctoral Fellowship Programme 2022-2023 MSCA-COFUND require that applicants who are not nationals, or long-term residents of a country where English is the official language, will need to provide at least one of the following certificates accrediting their level of English:
- TOEFL: minimum score of 95 for the Internet-based test.
- University of Cambridge: minimum C1 Advance
- IELTS: minimum score of 7
- Official Language Schools (EOI) in Spain: C1 level completed and passed.
If applicants are not in possession of the required certificate at the date of submission of their application, an evidence of test registration (including date of the test) shall be uploaded when submitting the Application. In those cases, the deadline for receiving (by email to energyforfuture@iberdrola.es) the English Certificate is 14 October 2021.
Therefore, if you are not a national of a country where English is the official language not either a long-term resident of a country where English is the official language, submission of an valid English certificate as referred above is compulsory in order to comply with the Terms of Application of the E4F Fellowship Programme.
Can the fellowship be prolonged?
No, the fellowship period is fixed.
When will I receive information on whether or not I will be offered a fellowship?
Offers/rejection will be given by email during the month of October 2023, thus it is important that you have access to and regularly check your email account during that period.
Will Iberdrola Foundation hire the Fellows?
No, fellows will be hired by the Academic Partner Organisation.
How will the Fellow’s salary be determined?
Specific amount of the fellowship will be established individually, considering each awarded fellows background and experience, and ensuring they are competitive with the terms offered by the Academic Partner to fellows of similar experience and background.
Has the industrial secondment partner to be one of the four organizations of the Iberdrola Group?
Yes, the 3 to 6 months compulsory secondment has to be in one of the 4 companies included in the Terms of the Applications:
- Iberdrola España ( Spain)
- Scotthish Power (UK)
- Avangrid (US)
- Iberdrola Mexico (Mexico)
There is an optional secondment at one of the 13 academic partners, offering secondments or at other organization proposed by the applicant (you will have to include a letter of Commitment in your application)
If I decide to do an optional secondment, how will the 24 months of the Fellowship be distributed?
In this case the breakdown of the Fellowship will be as follows:
- 18 months at the academic hosting partner organization
- 3 months compulsory secondment at one of the 4 Iberdrola group companies
- 3 months optional secondment at one of the academic partners offering secondment position or at other organization of your choice
Do I need to contact organization I select for the compulsory secondment before I send the application?
No, you do not have to contact your proposed secondment organization. If your application is one of the 14 awarded, we will accept to host your secondment.
Remember that most of the research work will be done at the Hosting University / Research Center. The purpose of the secondment is to expose the researchers to an industrial company environment, in your case in a company deploying and operating solar technology, with a focus on personal and professional development including skills such as influence and impact, team working, innovation, problem solving, which all contribute to strengthening future employability.
Is there a template available for the research proposal?
It has to be a maximum 10 pages document (Arial or Times New Roman 11) describing their proposed research project (the “Research Project”), including objectives, methodology and motivation.
